"The Virtues and the Passions" -- St. Peter of Damaskos

"St. Peter wrote a long and exhaustive list of the virtues and the passions which encompasses not only everyday passions and virtues, but the more specialized ones relating to ascetic practices and the monastic life. These two lists will apply to all of us, whether monk or layperson."

This is an interesting list, but it seems to me such lists are not of much help in our thinking on virtues because of their sheer length.

This is why, when I formulated the "Primary Virtue" model, I sought to create a hierarchy and a system by which virtues were related, which I believe is helpful in thinking about them.

Still, nothing wrong with making lists :)

Right. I have a special use for these long lists of virtues. I have been using this list of 140 virtues in "A virtues approach to personality" to define, or profile, PTypes' Personality Types.
http://www.authentichappiness.org/Strengths.html

For example, the Character Strengths and Virtues of the Conscientious type:

I took a look at your hierarchy of virtues - it's interesting. Have you seen the hierarchy of Martin Seligman?
