Ruling R-2026-11-02-__: Retirement of “the two-mode model”

Theoretical foundations: Grant C. Sterling (Eastern Illinois University). Analysis and synthesis: Dave Kelly. Prose rendering: Claude (Anthropic). 2026.

Finding

Every Recovery Audit says it “runs after assent, as in the two-mode model.” No document in the project defines that model, and the phrase is not Sterling’s. A reader meeting it has nothing in the corpus to look it up against.

Ruling

  • The phrase “the two-mode model” is retired. No new run will use it.
  • From this ruling on, the Recovery Audit opens with this sentence: “This audit corrects a judgment already made, as Excerpt 7, clause (b), directs when clause (a) has failed. It does not intercept anything in real time.”
  • In every document already ratified, the phrase is to be read as meaning only that the audit runs after assent, under Excerpt 7, clause (b). Those documents are not reopened, and their wording stands as ratified.
  • The drafts still pending (Huckleberry Finn, Revelation 13, 17 and 18, and “Back to Black”) take the new sentence before they are ratified.

Ground

Excerpt 7 already holds the distinction the phrase pointed at. Clause (a) is to refuse assent to impressions that depict externals as good or evil. Clause (b) is what to do once (a) has failed. The audit is clause (b), and the citation can name it directly.

Version Note

Drafted 2 November 2026. Ratified by the operator, 3 November 2026. The Register number is not yet assigned.
