The Recent Link Network — The September Cluster in Dependency Order (v1.0)

Method

Eighteen documents were scanned for references to one another, together with the outbound links each carries. Edges are directed: A points to B where A cites, rests on, or draws from B. The ordering below is topological — no document appears before what it depends on. The graph was built from the documents themselves rather than from the blog, whose cached feed stops at July.

Layer 0 — Foundations

Cited, citing nothing in the cluster.

These are the terminal nodes. Every path in the network ends here.

Layer 1 — Primary-Source Records

Dated words, no analysis. They feed the layers above and cite nothing but the archive.

Layer 2 — The Two Roots

The cluster has two independent origins, and almost everything else descends from one or the other.

Root A — The Decision Point. We usually know what to do and desire to do something else. Cites nothing in the cluster. In-degree 4.

Root B — The Period Before Reception. The deliberate return; the interval before an impression arrives. Cites nothing in the cluster. In-degree 2.

Layer 3 — First Derivations

From Root A:

  • The Fixed Target → Decision Point, Innermost Loop, Day Organized Around Action

From Root B:

  • The Outlook and the Attitude → Period Before Reception, Assent Threshold

Layer 4 — The Clause Sequence

Root A extended. The Fixed Target → The Counterfeit and the Collection (clauses b and e) → The Failure Surface (clauses a and b integrated).

This is the only strictly linear chain in the network. Each step adds clauses: (a) and (d), then (a), (b), (d), and (e), then (a), (b), and (d) integrated. The Failure Surface cites all three predecessors.

Layer 5 — Integration

Three Defenses — Assent, Termination, and the Therapy Thesis → Assent Threshold, Period Before Reception, Dawn Rule, Day Organized Around Action, Pathos Already Occurred. Out-degree 5. This is where the whole of Root B converges, including the otherwise-stranded Dawn Rule.

Use and Correct Use of Impressions — The Genus and the Qualified Case → Edelstein CPA, Assent Threshold. The document that fixes the term control and quotes the 2019 passages.

Layer 6 — The Joint

The Decision Point and the Therapy Thesis — Defense Four → Decision Point, Fixed Target, Three Defenses, Edelstein CPA.

The only document that touches both roots’ descendant chains. Root A reaches it through the Decision Point and the Fixed Target; Root B reaches it through Three Defenses. Remove Defense Four and the network falls into two components.

Layer 7 — This Session

Retrieval Map → Defense Four, Use and Correct Use, Edelstein CPA. Bookkeeping; it identifies the three documents resting on unfiled sources.

Four concepts do all the joining. Each appears in a different set of documents, and the sets barely overlap.

The clause structure (a, b, d, e) — Fixed Target, Counterfeit, Failure Surface, Innermost Loop, Three Defenses. Carries Root A.

Excerpt 10 and the recovery audit — Assent Threshold, Three Defenses, Use and Correct Use, Outlook and the Attitude. Carries Root B.

Termination — the widest-travelling idea in the cluster: Decision Point, Fixed Target, Failure Surface, Innermost Loop, Three Defenses, Defense Four, Assent Threshold, Dawn Rule. It appears in documents descending from both roots, and it is the only concept that does.

The standing disposition — Defense Four, Use and Correct Use, Reversion. The two-mode model, and the thinnest of the four.

Structural Findings

Three hubs. Assent Threshold (in-degree 5), Decision Point (4), Edelstein CPA (3). Each anchors one region.

One articulation point. Defense Four. It is the sole edge between the two halves.

Two orphans.

Reversion and the Standing Frame (v0.1) is a true isolate: nothing in the cluster cites it, and it cites nothing. Its only concept, the standing disposition, is shared with Defense Four and Use and Correct Use, neither of which reaches for it. Either it needs attaching or it is superseded.

Sterling, 11 August 2013 cites the Decision Point and the Fixed Target, but nothing cites it back — a primary-source record filed and not yet drawn on. This is the same condition the Retrieval Map found for the 2019 control passages, one layer up.

One near-orphan. The Dawn Rule reaches the network through Three Defenses alone. Remove that edge and Discourses III.3 drops out of the cluster entirely.

Asymmetry. Root A produced a tight linear chain of four; Root B produced a fan converging on a single hub. The two structures are joined at one point, which is thinner than the amount of shared vocabulary between them would suggest.
